NASA released thousands of new photos taken during the Artemis II mission around the moon. The astronauts selected for the mission thoroughly documented the 10-day voyage, which included an April 6 lunar flyby as they traveled more than a quarter-million miles from Earth.
Godine provođene na surovoj marsovskoj površini ostavljaju trag — pa i na roveru poput NASA-inog Curiosityja, koji je posebno dizajniran za te ekstremske uslove. Novi dvominutni vremenski presjek prikazuje kako su kameniti i prašnjavi tereni tokom šest godina uticali na točkove ovog rover‑a.
Video, objavljen 28. aprila, sastavljen je od snimaka jedne od dve navigacione kamere (Navcam) montirane na „glavi" Curiosityja i obuhvata period od 2. januara 2020. do 8. marta 2026. Na seriji fotografija jasno se vide oštećenja na svih šest točkova — svaki prečnika oko 20 inča (≈51 cm) — dok rover prelazi preko stena, šljunka i prašine.
Zašto je ovo važno?
Osim vizuelnog svedočanstva tehničkog napora, tim NASA‑e koristi snimke da prati sitna pomeranja zrna peska na palubi rovera. Praćenjem razlika između peska koji se pomera usled samih vožnji i onog koji pomera vetar, naučnici dobijaju dodatne informacije o sezonskim promenama u marsovskoj atmosferi.
„Tim koji radi na Curiosityju koristi ovaj vremenski presjek da prati pokrete zrna peska na palubi rovera. Razdvajanje peska koji se pomera usled svake vožnje i udara vetra može da pruži nove informacije o sezonskim promenama u atmosferi,“ rekao je NASA tim u zvaničnom saopštenju.
Curiosity istražuje Gale Crater od 2012. godine i penje se uz centralnu planinu Mount Sharp, visine od oko 3 milje (~5 km). Iako je prvobitno projektovan za dvogodišnju misiju, rover već više od decenije prikuplja podatke i učestvovao je u otkrićima organskih molekula i drugih važnih geoloških zapažanja.
NASA je ranije, 2024. godine, objavila fotografije koje pokazuju udarce i rupe na točkovima Curiosityja, što dodatno potvrđuje koliko je Mars zahtevan za mobilne istraživače. Uprkos oštećenjima, Curiosity i dalje obavlja naučne zadatke i nastavlja da istražuje površinu Crvene planete.
