NASA ima ambiciozan trofazni plan za izgradnju lunarne baze vredne oko 20 milijardi dolara do 2032. godine. Program predviđa seriju lansiranja sletnih modula, dronova, rovera i prateće infrastrukture kako bi se stvorili uslovi u kojima astronauti mogu da žive i rade na Mesecu — a to bi trebalo da posluži i kao odskočna daska za buduće misije ka Marsu. Projekat dolazi svega dva meseca nakon istorijske misije Artemis II koja je poslala četvoro astronauta ka našem prirodnom satelitu.
Ključni ciljevi i kontekst
Plan je predstavila NASA, a zvaničnici agencije istakli su da bi nova baza bila prvi stalni ljudski i američki outpost na drugom nebeskom telu. Pored naučnih ciljeva, razlog izgradnje obuhvata i testiranje tehnologija i procedura potrebnoih za dugotrajne međuzvezdane misije.

Dugačka je 133 stope (oko 40,5 m) i predstavlja poslednju od velikih lokomotiva iz doba Drugog svetskog rata. Očekuje se da će je na stajanjima u Nebraski, Ajovi, Ilinoisu, Indijani, Ohaju i Njujorku pozdraviti više od milion ljudi. „Čuće se zvižduk, osetićete drhtanje zemlje i toplotu — ova lokomotiva ne razočara“, rekao je Ed Dickens iz Union Pacifica.
USA 250: Suveniri i razmena uspomena
