SpaceX će lansirati NASA‑in Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope 30. avgusta, sa poletanjem ne pre 7:26 ET sa LC‑39A na Kennedy Space Centeru. Roman će raditi sa pozicije oko Sunčevo‑Zemljine L2 tačke, na oko 1 milion milja (≈1,5 miliona km) od Zemlje, i sarađivaće sa Hubble i James Webb teleskopima. Teleskop nosi širokougaonu near‑infrared kameru i koronograf, a primarna misija traje pet godina uz mogućnost produženja.

NASA-in novi veliki svemirski opservatorij, Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, trebalo bi da poleti iz Floride 30. avgusta, sa poletanjem planiranim ne pre 7:26 ujutro po istočnom vremenu (ET). Teleskop će biti podignut na vrh SpaceX-ove Falcon Heavy rakete sa istorijskog lansirnog kompleksa LC‑39A na Kennedy Space Centeru u blizini Cape Canaverala.

Za šta je Roman napravljen

Roman je dizajniran da posmatra svemir iz područja oko Sunčevo‑Zemljine L2 tačke, na udaljenosti od oko 1 milion milja (približno 1,5 miliona kilometara) od Zemlje. Radiće u partnerstvu sa Hubble i James Webb teleskopima kako bi proučavao tamnu energiju, mapirao velike strukture univerzuma i tražio egzoplanete.

Glavne karakteristike i instrumenti

Teleskop je dug oko 42 stope (≈13 m) i širok više od 14 stopa (≈4,3 m). Glavni instrumenti uključuju:

  • Širokougaonu multi‑pojasnu near‑infrared (NIR) kameru velikog vidnog polja, namenjenu za široka kosmička pretraživanja;
  • Koronograf (napredni uređaj za prigušivanje svetla zvezda) koji omogućava neposredna posmatranja okolnih egzoplaneta.
"Roman, najnoviji svemirski teleskop NASA, promeniće način na koji posmatramo univerzum i odgovoriće na ključna pitanja u astronomiji — pomažući istraživačima da razumeju kako se univerzum menja, šta pokreće njegovo širenje i koja sveta postoje izvan našeg Sunčevog sistema," navodi NASA.

Lansiranje i raketa

Teleskop je već smešten u 43‑ft (≈13 m) zaštitni omotač (fairing) koji ga štiti tokom prolaska kroz atmosferu. Omotač će biti montiran na vrh Falcon Heavy rakete pre iznošenja na lansirnu rampu. Falcon Heavy je super‑teška verzija Falcon 9 rakete, sastavljena od tri glavna povratna stupnja Falcon 9, pri čemu svaki pokreće po devet Merlin motora. Bočni stupnjevi se obično vraćaju i sleću, dok je centralni stupanj Falcon Heavy u većini misija potrošni i nije vraćen.

Tokom prethodnog Falcon Heavy leta 29. aprila zabeležena su dva zvučna udara u Brevard County kada su bočni booster-i vraćeni brže od zvuka i sleteli za manje od osam minuta. Nakon izgaranja, omotač će se odvojiti nekoliko minuta u letu i kasnije biti vraćen radi oporavka.

Orbita i trajanje misije

Nakon oslobađanja iz omotača, Roman će nastaviti ka svojoj ciljnoj orbiti oko Sunčevog sistema u blizini L2 tačke. Primarna misija traje pet godina, a NASA je projektovala teleskop sa mogućnošću produženja misije za još oko pet godina, u zavisnosti od naučnih prioriteta i dostupnosti resursa.

Misija i sam teleskop upravljaju se iz NASA‑inog Goddard Space Flight Centera u Greenbeltu, Maryland. Očekuje se da Roman značajno doprinese razumevanju tamne energije i pronalasku novih egzoplaneta — dopunjujući podatke koje pružaju Hubble i James Webb.
